Overwhelmed (Noelle)

Gouache on Chipboard

Overwhelmed is an ongoing series exploring outward and inward expressions of stress. The series started in the weeks leading up to COVID, as my community became suffocated by the sociopolitical state. These portraits are an exercise in vulnerability, showing the sitter consumed by their thoughts.

Little Girl Torn

Sculptured paper with Ink tint

She looks somewhere downward with a distant gaze, her mouth slightly agape in despair. Having have shed so many tears it's left a trail from one eye, washing the fine film of dust on her cheek. World she didn't choose as in so many native communities, is tearing down and vanishing beneath her.
